Medical Careers
Where the Hospital Becomes the Classroom!
This program is offered only to high school seniors who are interested in college to prepare for a career in health care. It has been nationally recognized by the Life Science Career Alliance, won teaching awards from PDE, and achieves 100% college placement.
Through partnerships with Delaware County Memorial Hospital and Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, students attend clinical rotations on a twice-weekly basis and shadow hospital staff as they care for patients. Students rotate through the following departments: OR, ER, ICU, Pharmacy, Lab, PT, OT, Nutrition Services and all Nursing units. Students benefit from career-based presentations from an array of health care professionals including: nurses, physicians, physician assistants, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, medical technologists and pharmacists.
The curriculum includes anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, medical terminology, safety, infection control and medical law and ethics. Students learn a variety of patient care skills and receive First Aid and CPR certifications. They graduate from the program with a solid understanding of the integral relations of the hospital team and a vision of their potential role in the health care industry.
