Ayden Marguese Garnes, a distinguished graduate of Monsignor Bonner and member of the Bonner & Prendie Class of 2021, is a rising star in the football world. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ayden is the son of Jerelle Holden and Kevin Garnes and older brother to Bryce.
As a Bonner & Prendie student, Ayden honed his football skills under the guidance of head coach Jack Muldoon. Ayden's contributions played a pivotal role in the Friars' remarkable accomplishments, including an undefeated season in 2020 and a 9-2 record in 2019. Ayden received the 2020 Pa. Football Writers First Team All-State in Class 4A. Additionally, he received All-Philadelphia Catholic League and All-Eastern Pennsylvania honors.
In the Friar's memorable win over Archbishop Wood, Ayden recorded five tackles and an interception, showcasing his defensive prowess. He also displayed his offensive abilities with seven receptions for 151 yards and three touchdowns, further solidifying his reputation as a versatile player.
Perhaps even more notable than his performance on the field is the virtuous character Ayden has demonstrated off the field. In January 2022, after learning he was the only match among his entire football team for the annual bone marrow drive, Ayden bravely volunteered to undergo an operation to donate his bone marrow to a woman in her 20s whom he never met. "I feel like it's a huge present I'm giving," Garnes said. "Because I'm able to help somebody stay alive. A lot of people don't get that chance."
Through the passion, courage, faith, and determination Ayden demonstrates on and off the field, Ayden is a shining example of the values Bonner & Prendie strives to instill in each graduate. With a great foundation established, Ayden Garnes will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark wherever the future leads him.
At the 2023 Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School graduation, Ayden was the recipient of the 2023 St. Augustine Medal Alumni Recipient.
Congratulations to Mr. Ayden Garnes. We look forward to cheering him on during the upcoming NFL season.
