Billy Lake '67 ALS Basketball Marathon at Bonner & Prendie honoring Fran Dunphy, Phil Martelli, Bobbi Morgan, Fran O'Hanlon

The 30th annual Billy Lake Memorial ALS Basketball Marathon will take place at Bonner & Prendergast High School Gym on Saturday, October 1, 2022.  16 teams (10 area high school teams including Bonner, 5 local teams and the Phillies Ballgirls) participate in this pay-to-play basketball “marathon.”  All proceeds go to ALS research and the Billy Lake Memorial Scholarship Fund at Bonner & Prendergast.
It has been 30 years since Billy Lake, class of 1967, father of four young children, lost his courageous battle with ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease.  Since 1992 the Lake-Quinn family and friends have been working to find the cure to the disease that took Bill’s life. They have 29 basketball marathons, 26 beef and beers, and 31 scholarships under our belts.  The Billy Lake ALS Basketball marathon has the distinction of being the longest running family fundraiser for ALS in the United States.
For this 30th year anniversary, they are honoring the 4 Philadelphia basketball coaches who have been with them from the beginning:  Fran Dunphy, Phil Martelli, Bobbi Morgan, and Fran O’Hanlon.
Spectators are heartily welcomed. Donations are even more heartily welcomed!  You can become a shirt sponsor or a team sponsor or a donator.  The Billy Lake Memorial ALS Research Fund is a 501c(3) organization, EIN 23-2699081.  The famous “marathon after-party” will take place at McSorley’s Ale House in Ardmore, PA.  All welcome!
ALS is a fatal, progressive, neuromuscular disease attacking men and women in the prime of life. This disease affects an estimated 30,000 people in the US every year, causing them to lose the ability to walk, move, speak, eat, and finally to breathe on their own. Your tax-deductible gift will support The ALS Association’s research programs fueling global collaboration to expedite the discovery of treatments and a cure for ALS.
