Guidance Department

Our Mission:

The mission of our Guidance Department is to deliver an equitable, comprehensive counseling program which supports students and their families in navigating their high school experience. In collaboration with teachers, parents, and the community, we will enhance students’ personal growth, academic achievement, and career preparation. Our innovative programs and interventions aim to help our students in advancing their problem solving and critical thinking skills and developing a growth mindset.  The members of the Guidance Department serve as student advocates and commit to helping students break down barriers to success in order to create an environment where every student feels valued, included, and cared for.

Our goal is to help our students achieve success and obtain the maximum benefit from their high school experience by assisting all students in assessing, and understanding their abilities, interests, and educational needs to prepare them to make informed positive decisions while developing into God-centered life long learners that become productive members of society.

Our Vision:

The Guidance Department at Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast High School believes strongly in the potential of each and every student. We collaborate with administration, teachers, and parents to ensure the support and success of our students in our engaged classrooms and beyond. We strive to assist our students in identifying, assessing, and applying their unique skills, abilities, and life experiences to empower our students to shape their own identities and future goals. We believe in the importance of a learning environment centered on the Catholic values of acceptance, respect, and love and we work to model and instill these values in our students to develop socially responsible, life-long learners rooted in kindness and service to others.

Our Legacy:

In honor of his brother Brad MacDonald '65, and legendary Guidance Director Fr. John Melton O.S.A., Mike MacDonald '71 lent his support for a full renovation of Bonner & Prendie's Guidance Center. Completed in August of 2016, the MacDonald/Melton Guidance Center received a total facelift, with new lights, floors and ceilings. This space is an important hub for our students, providing college and academic guidance, and also serving a variety of mental health needs.
